This FAQ is for those who have purchased iPads through Smart Flow and are updated through our Device Management software. If you have purchased iPads for your clinic yourself, then this will not be an appropriate FAQ for you.
When you first get your iPads and turn them on, the first few steps will be to set up your region and language.
The next screen will ask if you want to Quick Start your iPad set up, by bringing an iPhone with iOS 11. You do not want to do this, down at the bottom there is a "Set up Manually" option, please click that instead.
Next, you will need to select, and sign into your WiFi at the clinic. After you successfully sign into your WiFi, it will take a few moments to activate your iPad, then a screen will come up asking you to share your Data. Please hit "Continue" on this screen to share information.
Next, there will be a Remote Management screen that will come up. This is where you sign in with your Smart Flow email (the email that you have registered for your clinic with Smart Flow) and you will use the password $martfl0w.
After you have signed in, the screen will go to a configuration screen for a few moments while it starts to download data from our MDM site.
Now, the next few steps are very important to complete a proper configuration. Multiple times during the setup process Apple will try to get you to sign in with your Apple ID, or to make an Apple ID. You do not need an Apple ID to use iPads no matter how convincing they make it look. Please always, always, always, hit "Cancel" or "Do Not Have an Apple ID" to continue through. This will come up multiple times during the set up, so always say no! The reason we recommend not having an Apple ID is that when you set it up, you are required to put in a credit card number, in case any purchases of Apps are made or purchases in Apps are made. We do not want staff to have the ability to accidentally charge something to the credit card that is on file for this ID, so please make sure you always continue past Apple ID.
Once out of the Apple ID screen, there will be three more screens that you can simply hit "Continue" through. These are just information screens.
Once you have continued past these screens, you will get to a white, 'Welcome to iPad' screen. At this point you can click "Continue" and then walk away! The time has come for a coffee break and you can let our MDM service take over the rest! At this point our Device Management software will work in the background changing settings to our specifications, deleting unnecessary apps and downloading the required App for Smart Flow. It will also change a number of settings to lock down the iPads so things cannot be fiddled with unnecessarily.
There will be one final time during this set up that Apple will try again to get you to sign up with an Apple ID. Please hit "Cancel" again, you do not need an Apple ID to run an iPad and it's best to not have one for public use iPads.
Once your iPads are set up, the screens should have a white background with a big "S" Smart Flow logo. You will see that a number of apps have been cleared out, and you will not have an App Store sitting on the desktop. You will see an "App Catalog" if you click on this, we can double check a couple of settings are correct.
First, you should see that down at the bottom where there are two options, the first one should say "Do Not have and Apple ID"
The second one, where it says user, you can click on this and it should bring up another smaller screen. The only detail we need to ensure on this screen is that section that says "Auto Update Apps" is set to "On".
If it says "Off" please contact us, as we will need to correct that.
After we have ensured those two settings, you are good to go! Please back out to the main screen (Hit the home button), open up Smart Flow, and sign in to your Smart Flow account! Please sign in with @ipad@ and then your Smart Flow email with the password, "password"
You're set up and ready to go!
