This document will explain what is expected to see on your flowsheets during and after Daylight Saving Time.

-SmartFlow will automatically adjust to the new time change

Time Change in the Spring:

  • Clocks will ‘spring forward’ by one hour.
  • The flowsheets for any patient in hospital during this time will be affected.
  • Flowsheets will show the 1:00 AM timeslot and follow with a 3:00 AM timeslot, skipping the 2:00 AM timeslot. Any treatments that were due at 2:00 AM will be moved to 3:00 AM.
  • If 24 hours is added to the flowsheet affected by the time change, you will notice the new flowsheet will start one hour later than usual.
  • If you do not want the next day of your patient’s flowsheet to start an hour later, you can discharge the patient and readmit.
  • New patients checked in the day following Daylight Savings will not be affected.

Further information on how the flowsheets will appear after the spring time change can be found in this document

Time Change in the Fall:

  • Clocks will ‘fall back’ by one hour.
  • The flowsheets for any patient in hospital during this time will be affected.
  • North America flowsheets will display a repetition of the 1:00 AM timeslot. Any treatments due at 2:00 AM will move to 1:00 AM.
  • Australia, New Zealand and Europe, clocks set back at 3:00 AM, you will see a repetition of the 2:00 AM timeslot. Any treatments due at 3:00 AM will move to 2:00 AM.
  • If your Flowsheets are set to start at 24:00, you will notice the next day will start at 23:00 instead of 24:00 and there will be two flowsheets with the same date.
  • If you do not want the next day of your patient’s flowsheet to start an hour earlier, you can discharge the patient and readmit.
  • New patients checked in the day following Daylight Savings will not be affected.
